Important Notice
TAKS tests for grades 9-11 are only a few weeks away. Eleventh graders across the state may find their graduation plans on hold if they are unable to pass four state assessments required to receive a Texas diploma. Students must pass the Science, Social Studies, Math and English Language Arts versions of TAKS.
Tatum ISD has prepared for this more rigorous assessment since the change was announced several years ago. The district has realigned when courses and objectives are taught, focused on close correlation between what is assessed and what is taught and emphasized differentiation in teaching students to think. Teachers have met weekly to plan intervention strategies and they have attended professional staff development meetings. Tatum High School administrators have had “TAKS talks” with students to outline areas of weakness and the counselor has invited the parent of each eleventh grader to an individual conference to discuss these requirements.
Other strategies to assist students in preparation for the test include Saturday TAKS tutorials, benchmark testing, TAKS blitz reviews, MySatori software and on-line TRACK TAKS practice. The state of Texas has developed on-line tests, released tests, and study guides that are available for parents and students online. We are striving for 100% passing rate because we want all Tatum High School students to graduate.
Saturday TAKS REVIEWShave been planned to give students tutorial time with Math and Science teachers on April 12, April 19, and April 26
Students who attend from 8:00-12:00 can erase two of their absences while reviewing TAKS tested skills. All students are welcome to attend for the extra boost that this review will provide! Your attendance could make the difference of passing or passing with commended acknowledgements.
TAKS Incentives
